This is a presentation on the explorer, Christopher Columbus, who discovered the ‘New World.’ Use it as part of a lesson or for an assembly. The presentation covers Christopher’s childhood, his early sailing years, his voyage and his discovery. The last part of the presentation includes some interesting questions to provoke discussion or for further exploration. Columbus is one of the key historical figures mentioned in the KS1 curriculum, so this presentation would be perfect for introducing the explorer.

A collection of five non-fiction comprehension activities for year 2. Each booklet comes in 3 differentiated levels and includes answers. They are all based on the reading SATs paper, containing a similar style of questions. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘how,’ and ‘why’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. They are also laid out in the same way as a SATs booklet to provide the children with greater experience. Each booklet contains a title page with helpful words followed by 4 or 5 pages of text with several questions after each piece of information. All of the booklets are in zip files. This resource is a non-fiction comprehension activity for year 2. The theme of the comprehension is ‘living in space’ and the booklet covers what it is like for astronauts living in space stations, including what they eat, how they sleep, how they exercise and what they do in their spare time. It would be perfect for using during ‘World Space Week’ in October, during a space topic or during ‘Science Week.’ The booklets are based on the KS1 SATs reading paper. I have included 3 differentiated levels. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘where,’ ‘how’ and ‘who’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. The activity is also laid out in a similar way to the SATs booklets. There is a title page with helpful words followed by four pages of pictures and short written extracts to read and 4 questions per page. Each differentiated level contains 16 questions in total. There is a colour and black white PDF version of the booklet for each level and answers are also included.

These Year 2 Remembrance Day comprehension activities are split into 3 differentiated levels. Each level contains 3 comprehensions with answers. They are: What is Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday? Why do we wear poppies? ‘The First Remembrance Day’ - A fictional original tale following two children during the two minute silence in November 1919. The higher level (Super Super Challenge) is based on the KS1 SATs reading paper and is a similar length to a SATs paper. The middle level (Super Challenge) is similar to the higher level but contains texts that are slightly shorter and a few easier questions. The lower level (Challenge) contains texts that are much shorter and different easier questions.
